Becky at Surfer’s Paradise!
Alex and Lauren.
I met Becky at a rest stop about two hours outside of Sydney. As sketchy as that sounds, it wasn’t — we were on the same Oz bus up from Sydney, and I invited myself to sit at her table for breakfast. I sat down, joining her, Alex and Lauren, three English girls here until Christmas. Alex and Lauren were traveling together, but they met Becky on their Oz intro tour, and had been pretty much inseparable ever since. They’ve even got a word for Becky’s ever frequent hiccups: Beccups.
Our first night in Surf Camp, Lauren managed to convince the young, obnoxious surfer-boys Mitch and Will to give us one of the en-suite cabins. Success. My first personal (ish) bathroom in a week and a half!
We spent that night out by the campfire with everyone staying there that night. It was a great time — this tiny little surf camp with no real town for miles away. The staff cooked us a huge Mexican feast, then brought us down to party on the beach next to a bonfire.
I spent the night with the girls, chatting next to the fire on the beach. Bed early for surfing at 7:30 a.m. the next day. Lauren, of course, got help from all three surf instructors (I think it had something to do with the long, blond hair). Matt helped me!
